This work presents an automated methodology for determining the hydraulic characteristics of porous mesh materials (PMMs) using computational modeling techniques. The proposed approach incorporates parameterized geometric models of PMMs with various weaving patterns, procedures for generating the discrete model and computational setup, as well as automated methods for conducting simulations and processing results. An investigation was performed to assess the adequacy of the assumptions adopted within the methodology, including the types and parameters of filament contact spots in the idealized geometry, the representative element size, and mesh-convergence behavior. These studies were carried out using validation data obtained from the open literature. It is demonstrated that the developed methodology provides an accuracy of pressure-drop prediction for fluid flow through PMMs within 6 – 17 % across a wide range of Reynolds numbers and different PMM types, which significantly surpasses the accuracy of universal correlation dependencies whose errors reach 30–180%. The results confirm the validity of using idealized geometric models of PMMs, provided that the structure of the representative element and the filament-contact model are selected appropriately.
